Nani is the Hindi term
Used for mother’s mom
And my nani’s rather talented
Her work decorates our home

Her fingers, they’re all gnarled now
And she can barely see
But give her a needle in her hands
she’ll teach you embroidery

A wooden ring with cloth spread taut
That’s her canvas blank
With a needle and thread in hand
She’ll transform the plain to swank

Purple periwinkle
and cotton white clouds
Lillies, daisies, sunflowers
They all begin to sprout!

A hundred stitches with fancy names
She knows like the back of her hand
How her geriatric mind remembers
That’s hard to understand!

What a fantastic thing it is
To watch her do her thing
I too would like a hobby
If a lifetime of joy it brings!
